Phillips Goal Pushes Bloomsburg Men's Soccer Past West Chester 2-1
WEST CHESTER- Freshman Tyler Phillips (Ephrata/Ephrata) scored the game-winning goal with 4:02 remaining in the second half to lift Bloomsburg to a 2-1 victory over West Chester in PSAC men's soccer action on Wednesday night.
The Huskies (5-2-2, 3-1-1) defense played tough through most of the first half, holding the Golden Rams scoreless until just over a minute left when J.J. DiFerdinando found the back of the net to put West Chester up 1-0.
The Bloomsburg offense stepped up in the second half, getting off a total of 12 shots. The Huskies got on the board in the 77th minute when freshman Bryce Shaffer (Gettysburg/Gettysburg Area) took a pass from senior Eric Simonds (Sassamansville/Boyertown) and put it past the goalie to tie the game. Bloomsburg kept pressing offensively and was able to get the game-winner from Phillips just eight minutes later.
Senior David Leiendecker (Easton/Easton) went all 90 minutes in the net for the Huskies recording eight saves.
Bloomsburg returns home this Saturday as they host the District of Columbia at 3 p.m. The Huskies will be participating in the conference-wide "Red Card Cancer" program, organized by head coach, Paul Payne.
