Bloomsburg Men's Soccer Fourth in PSAC Preseason Poll

BLOOMSBURG-The Bloomsburg University men's soccer team has been picked by the conference coaches to finish fourth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division, it was announced on Wednesday.

East Stroudsburg was voted to the top spot, receiving three first place votes, while second place Millersville received two. West Chester, chosen third, and Shippensburg, fifth, round out the rest of the East.

"With the way we performed last season, this vote was expected," said head coach Paul Payne on the fourth place selection. "The fortunate thing for us is that games aren't played on paper."

The Huskies are led by Payne, now in his 11th year at Bloomsburg. He's guided the Huskies to three PSAC playoff appearances during his tenure and his 72 victories are the most in school history.

Bloomsburg returns the core defensive group from last year's squad, including co-captains Tom Pfender (Langhorne/Neshaminy) and Chris Chestnut (West Lawn /Wilson), along with All-PSAC performers in Mike Jones (Paoli/Great Valley) and goalie David Leindecker (Easton/Easton). Leindecker was second in the conference in saves (103) and fourth in saves per game (5.15) and is part of a unit that allowed more than two goals in a game in just four times.

The Huskies will play Caldwell on August 27 and Nyack on August 29 in the Nyack College Warrior Invitational to open the season. Bloomsburg will have its home opener at Sports Stadium on Wednesday, September 2 at 7 p.m. against West Chester.
