Britt and Webster Lead Huskies to Huge Win over West Chester

Box Score

WEST CHESTER-Senior guard Ruben Britt (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) scored 22 points and sophomore forward Larry Webster (Elkton, MD/Elkton) posted a double-double to lead Bloomsburg University to a 67-55 win over West Chester University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. The victory kept the Huskies in the hunt for the PSAC tournament.

The Golden Rams opened the game with four straight points but Bloomsburg (10-12, 4-6) came back with a 9-4 run, with two three-pointers coming from Britt. After a Kenneth St. George jumper gave West Chester a 10-9 lead, Britt came right back and nailed another three-pointer, giving the Huskies a 12-10 lead at the 13:08 mark in the first half. West Chester (14-8, 3-6) would regain the lead at 15-12 but a dunk by Webster and a layup by Britt on consecutive trips down the floor put the Huskies up by one, a lead they would not relinquish.

After ending the half on a 12-6 run to take a seven-point lead into the locker room, the Huskies put the pressure on West Chester, going on top 35-21 just 2:25 into the second half. A pair of free throws by Ralph Hegamin at the 11:56 mark brought the Golden Rams back to within nine at 39-30, but Britt and sophomore forward Trenton Epps (Frederick, MD/St. John's Catholic Prep) responded with three combined layups on consecutive trips down the floor, as the Huskies went back on top by 15 points.

The Golden Rams did not quit, however, and battled back with a 19-10 run to cut their deficit to 55-49 with 2:44 left in the game. The Huskies came right back and Webster answered with a huge dunk just 10 seconds later that propelled Bloomsburg to a 12-6 run to end the game.

St. George and Hegamin combined for just 24 points, as the Huskies forced West Chester to convert just 23.3 percent (14-of-60) of its field goal attempts. Britt continued his hot streak with his 22 points, going 9-of-14 from the floor, including 4-of-7 from three-point range. Webster ended with 15 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks and sophomore guard Jesse Betar (Altoona/Altoona) added 13 points and six rebounds.

The Huskies return to the court next Wednesday when they host Shippensburg at 7:30 p.m. This win moved Bloomsburg into the fifth spot in the PSAC Eastern Division, two games behind Mansfield (6-4) who defeated Cheyney (6-3) earlier today.
