BLOOMSBURG--The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team will have some extra motivation heading into the 2009-10 season. The Huskies were picked eighth in the pre-season coaches' poll despite returning their top six scorers from last year.
Among the returning players for Bloomsburg are senior Ruben Britt (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) who led the Huskies a year ago averaging 13.2 points per game a year ago as well as sophomores Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD/Snow Hill) and Larry Webster (Elkton, MD/Elkton) who both averaged 12.2 per contest. Webster, who was five times named the PSAC East Rookie of the Week, also led the Huskies in rebounding with 9.1 a game and in blocked shots with 34 in 19 games.
Fourth in scoring for the Huskies a year ago was sophomore Ronnie Benson (Harleysville/Souderton Area) who averaged 7.7 points per game and hit a team-best 39 three-pointers. In mid-January of last season he earned the PSAC Rookie of the Week award.
Another sophomore, Dan Hoover (Lansdale/North Penn), averaged 7.5 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game and was twice named the PSAC East Rookie of the Week. Hoover, with his physical style of play, also led the Huskies in getting to the free throw line with a mark of 105. The sixth leading scorer to return for the Huskies is sophomore Jesse Betar (Altoona/Altoona). The point guard had a team-high 65 assists and averaged 7.3 points per game. Betar was named the PSAC East Rookie of the Week once during the season.
