Huskies Rally in Second Half to Defeat Edinboro

BLOOMSBURG- Senior guard Ruben Britt (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) scored a career-high 30 points as Bloomsburg University used a second half rally to claim a 65-59 victory over Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) men's basketball cross-over action on Sunday afternoon at the Nelson Field House.

The Fighting Scots went up 10-8 at the 13:24 mark of the first half and used an 11-4 run to stretch their advantage to as many as nine. Byron Knight shot 4-of-5 from the floor and scored 12 points as Edinboro took a 37-30 lead into halftime.

The Huskies (6-4) started the second half strong, going on a 10-3 run in the first 4:27 to tie the game at 40. Four Bloomsburg players scored during the run, including freshman forward Ed Hall (Spencerville, MD/Paint Branch) with four points. Edinboro would go back on top 46-41 with 13:51 left, but the Huskies would bounce back, going on a 9-3 run and taking a 50-49 lead with freshman guard Jamar Smack's (State College/State College) three-pointer with 8:44 remaining. Britt would then score the Huskies next six points and Hall's fast break layup would put Bloomsburg up 58-52 with 4:43 left.

The Fighting Scots (6-4) brought the Huskies lead back to five with a foul shot by Chris Bess but Britt would again answer on the other end with a jumper, giving Bloomsburg a 60-53 lead with 3:22 remaining. Foul shots by Britt, senior guard Greg Elliott (White Rock, British Columbia/Earl Marriott) and Smack would help ice the game for the Huskies, giving them two wins this weekend over PSAC West foes.

Britt shot 12-of-16 from the floor, adding nine rebounds, four assists, four blocks and three steals in 35 minutes. 17 of his 30 points came during the Huskies second half comeback. Hall scored 12 points and added nine rebounds of his own in just 22 minutes and sophomore forward Larry Webster (Elkton, MD/Elkton) blocked six shots to go along with six points and six boards for the Huskies.

Bloomsburg hits the road next weekend, visiting Gannon on Saturday and Clarion on Sunday. Tip-off for each game is 3:00 p.m.
