Bloomsburg Falls to Clarion

Box Score

CLARION - The Bloomsburg University men's basketball team fell to Clarion 64-58 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) cross-over action on Sunday afternoon.

The Huskies and the Golden Eagles traded baskets throughout the first half as neither team led by more than four points. Sophomore guard Jesse Betar (Altoona/Altoona) and sophomore forward Trenton Epps (Frederick, MD/St. John's Catholic Prep) would score most of Bloomsburg's points, combining for 17 of the team's 25 as Clarion went into the locker room leading by two.

Both teams would again trade baskets at the beginning of the second half, as the Golden Eagles led 37-33 at the 13:51 mark. Clarion would then get hot, scoring nine straight points in a little over two minutes of action to go on top by 13 with 11:33 left. The Huskies battled back, going on a 20-8 run capped by layup by sophomore forward Larry Webster (Elkton, MD/Elkton), cutting their deficit to 54-53 with 3:41 remaining.

The Huskies would send Clarion to the foul line in the game's final minutes, but the Golden Eagles took advantage, sinking six straight shots from the charity stripe. Bloomsburg would get back to within four at 60-56 when Betar hit a three-pointer with 18 seconds remaining but it would be too little as Clarion would go on to win by six.

Betar finished with a season-high 15 points, adding six rebounds and four assists while Webster added 11 points, seven boards and four blocks. During the game, Webster moved into eighth place all-time in Bloomsburg history in career blocks and currently has 69.

The Huskies (6-6) open their 2009-10 PSAC East schedule on Wednesday when they travel to Cheyney to take on the Wolves. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m.
