Bloomsburg Lacrosse Ranked Fifth in Preseason Poll
BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University lacrosse team is ranked fifth in the newly released Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II preseason poll. The Huskies open their season on March 21 versus Longwood at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.
Bloomsburg finished the 2002 season with a record of 10-4, 5-1 and runners-up in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), and will return seven seniors from last year. The top returning player will be junior Georgia Carinci (Springmount/Conwell Egan) who was second on the team last year in both goals and points with 34 and 51, respectively. She was also third on the squad in assists with 17.
Other top returning players include senior Megan Pry (Downingtown/Downingtown), who had 17 goals, a team-high 23 assists and 40 points last season, junior Sheila Zilinski (Barto/Boyertown), 29 goals, seven assists and 36 points, junior Julie Minogue (Chalfont/C.B. West), 20 goals, six assists and 26 points, and senior Katie O'Neill (Exton/Downingtown), 15 goals, six assists and 21 points.
Junior Linda Schultz (Doylestown/C.B. West) will take over the goaltending duties from last year's starter, the graduated Yshonda Wisher. Schultz, in limited playing time last season, had a .771 save percentage in four games played. Top defensive returners include second-team All-PSAC selections Steph Straup (Philadelphia/Penn Charter), Marcie Zilinski (Barto/Boyertown), and Nicole Settani (Malvern/Great Valley).
The Huskies are one of three PSAC schools to be ranked in the top 10, along with West Chester (number one) and Millersville (number eight).
