No. 2 Bloomsburg Field Hockey Sinks No. 1 Shippensburg 5-1
BLOOMSBURG-The Bloomsburg University field hockey team defeated Shippensburg 5-1 in a battle of top-ranked schools on Tuesday evening at Sports Stadium.
The Huskies (10-1) opened up the scoring just 27 seconds into the game when senior Maggey Bloskey (Danville/Danville) knocked a shot past the goalie. Bloomsburg made it 2-0 when senior Erin Hench (Loysville/West Perry) found the back of the net just 2:10 later.
The Huskies continued to attack on the offensive end when sophomore Amanda Riley (Tannersville/Pocono Mountain East) put one past the goalie off of a rebound to make the lead 3-0 at the 9:32 mark in the first half. A little over four minutes later, Bloomsburg went up by four goals when senior Breanne Tobin (Perkasie/Pennridge) scored off a scramble in front of the net.
The second half featured more defense from both teams, as several shots and offensive chances were turned away. The Huskies made it a five-goal advantage 13 minutes in when freshman Sandy Anceravage (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg) took a crossing pass from sophomore Lindsey Danz (Rehoboth Beach, DE/Sussex Technical) and found the back of the cage. The Lady Raiders avoided the shutout when Laura Wylde took a redirected pass in front of the net from Kristina Taylor and put it to the back of the net to make the score 5-1.
Senior Caitlin Koczynski (Yardley/Neshaminy) went the entire way in the cage for the Huskies, registering seven saves on the evening.
Bloomsburg returns to the field this Saturday as they travel to Kutztown to take on the Golden Bears. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
