Bloomsburg Field Hockey Tops in PSAC Preseason Poll

BLOOMSBURG-The Bloomsburg University field hockey team has been tabbed as the number one team in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division, as voted on by the coaches.

The Huskies, defending Division II national champions, received all five first place votes and were followed on the ballot by second place Kutztown, East Stroudsburg, Millersville and C.W. Post.

Bloomsburg will again be led on the field by head coach Jan Hutchinson, who is entering her 32nd season with a 569-74-20 (.872) overall record. While at the helm, Hutchinson as led the Huskies to 15 national championships, 16 conference titles, and a winning record in 30 of her 31 seasons. She is the winningest coach in NCAA field hockey history and is the only coach with over 500 victories.

The Huskies return four of their top six scorers from 2008 in seniors Maggey Bloskey (Danville/Danville) and Chelsea Due (Pen Argyl/Pen Argyl), junior Ashley Miller (Shermans Dale/West Perry) and sophomore Amanda Riley (Tannersville/Pocono Mountain East). Due secured first team All-America and first team All-PSAC selections last season after scoring 13 goals and assisting on seven others. Bloskey, a second team All-America last year, tied for second on the team with 21 goals. Both Miller and Riley netted 12 goals last season for the Huskies.

The Huskies open their title defense at Sports Stadium against Houghton on Saturday, August 29 at 1 p.m. They stay at home on Sunday, August 30 for a game against Stonehill at noon.
