Vanartsdalen Named PSAC East Field Hockey
Player of the Week
BLOOMSBURG-- Field hockey standout Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntingdon Valley/Lower Moreland) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 7.
Vanartsdalen claims her first PSAC Player of the Week honor this year after breaking the NCAA Division II record for points and the Bloomsburg school record for goals last week, in which she scored three goals and recorded two assists in a 2-0 week for the top-ranked Huskies.
In a 7-1 over Philadelphia last Wednesday, she broke the record by scoring twogoals and recording one assist, giving her 208 career points to surpass the old mark of 206 set by Lock Haven's Melanie Helm from 1993-96. Her first goal of the game, scored at the 11:46 mark, was her 83rd career goal, which broke the Bloomsburg school record, passing Deniese Millers' previous record of 82 goals from 1989-93. Her second goal of the day, which came in the 63rd minute and after an assist in the 42nd minute, broke the NCAA points mark.
On Sunday, she added three more points in an 8-0 win over Seton Hill, scoring a goal and recording an assist. She ended the week with 85 career goals, which is just five shy of tying Helm's PSAC record of 90 career goals and eight shy of tying the NCAA Division II career record of 93 goals, currently held by Terry Voit of Longwood from 1974-77.
Bloomsburg, 4-0, will play at East Stroudsburg on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
