BLOOMSBURG, PA - The two-time defending NCAA Champion Bloomsburg University field hockey team is ranked first in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) pre-season poll. The Huskies received nine first place votes in the poll while second ranked team, University of Massachusetts Lowell, received three first place votes.
The Huskies will have a strong veteran group returning which will be led by six returning All-Americans, including last season's National NCAA Division II and PSAC Player of the Year senior Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntingdon Valley, PA/Lower Moreland). Vanartsdalen had one of the best seasons in field hockey history last year with 35 goals and 19 assists.
Senior All American Sam Kropa (Tunkhannock, PA/Lackawanna Trail), who tallied 14 goals and six assists last season, will join Vanartsdalen in the attacking line, along with a strong group of returners and an All-American transfer. Junior All-American Chelsea Due (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl) who had eight goals and nine assists last season will lead the midfield.
The Huskies' starting defenders are all back including senior All-American Whitney Miller (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) and 2006 All-American Venessa Witman (Oley, PA/Oley Valley), who sat out last season due to injury.
Joining Bloomsburg is All-American Breanne Tobin (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge), a transfer from Mansfield, who tallied 15 goals and three assists a year ago.
