Vanartsdalen Sets D-II Career Goal Scoring Mark
BLOOMSBURG-- Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntingdon Valley/Lower Moreland) scored twice and became the NCAA Division II all-time leader in career goals to help lead the Bloomsburg University field hockey team to an 8-0 win over Mansfield on Thursday.
Vanartsdalen went into the game needing two goals to surpass Terry Voit of Longwood (1974-77) and the record of 93 goals. Vanartsdalen tied the record with a goal at the 18:29 mark, then got the record-breaker eight minutes into the second half of play. Vanartsdalen, who earlier this season set the D-II record for most career points, also moved into a tie for second on the career assists mark after getting two in the win over the Mountaineers.Vanartsdalen is now tied with Liz Pezzola of Bentley (1995-98) for second all-time. The record is 59 by Anne Marie Sheridan of Bentley (1997-2000).
The Huskies scored just 3:53 into the game when Chelsea Due (Pen Argyl/Pen Argyl) scored off a Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail) assist on a penalty corner. After Vanartsdalen made it 2-0, Ashley Miller scored off Vanartsdalen's first assist for a 3-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, Kropa scored twice, one on an assist from Vanartsdalen, while Betsy Renn (Herndon/Line Mountain) and Amanda Riley (Tannersville/Pocono Mountain East) each added one goal.
The Huskies, 8-0, visit Shippensburg on Saturday in a noon start.
