Five Bloomsburg Field Hockey Players Named All-Americans

BLOOMSBURG - Bloomsburg University field hockey players Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntingdon Valley/Lower Moreland), Chelsea Due (Pen Argyl/ Pen Argyl), Whitney Miller (Lancaster/Penn Manor), Ashley Heckard (Millerstown/Greenwood), and Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail) have been named to the 2007 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division II All-American team.

Vanartsdalen, Due and Miller earned first team honors, while Heckard and Kropa were named to the second team.

In addition, named Vanartsdalen national player of the year and a first team All-American. Miller, Heckard and Due joined Vanartsdalen as first team All-Americans, while Kropa was named to the second team. Ashley Miller (Shermans Dale/West Perry) and Brieann Wolfe (Perkasie/Pennridge) were named to the All-Rookie team.

Vanartsdalen, a junior, was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Player of the Year and first team All-PSAC, as she led the Huskies to their second consecutive national championship. Vanartsdalen led the nation in scoring, averaging 3.56 points per game. In addition, she led the team in assists with 19, and shattered the Bloomsburg single-season and career scoring records. With one season remaining, she now has 196 career points, just 11 shy of breaking the NCAA Division II career record. This is the third straight season she has been named an All-American.

Due, a sophomore, racked up eight goals and nine assists for 26 points, good for fifth on the team. She is a two-time first team All-PSAC selection and was the PSAC rookie of the year in 2006, as well as making the all-rookie team and second team All-American. She was also named the 2007 NCAA Championship all-tournament team, scoring one goal and two assists.

Whitney Miller, a junior, had a strong season for the Huskies. She finished the season with four goals and 10 assists from her midfield position. She started all 25 games and was named first team All-PSAC for the first time.

Heckard, a senior, had a breakout season, as she scored 25 goals on only 57 shots, an amazing .439 scoring percentage. She was second on the team in points and fourth nationally in scoring, averaging 2.2 points per game. She was a first-team All-PSAC Selection. This is her first time being honored as an All-American.

Kropa, a junior, finished fourth on the team in scoring with 14 goals and six assists. She is a three-time All-PSAC selection as well as a two-time first team All-American.

Ashley Miller, a freshman, appeared in all 25 games for the Huskies, and finished with 16 points this season. Wolfe, also a freshman, was third on the team with 17 goals.

Bloomsburg finished the season as Division II national champions, compiling a 21-4 overall record as well as an 11-3 record in the PSAC under head coach Jan Hutchinson.
