Anthony Smith Named PSAC East Defensive Player of the Week Again
BLOOMSBURG-For the second time in three weeks, Bloomsburg University linebacker Anthony Smith (Pottstown/Pottstown) has been named the PSAC Eastern Division Defensive Player of the Week.
Smith earned the award after keying another dominant defensive performance by Bloomsburg in the Huskies' 17-7 win over Mercyhurst. Smith made 11 tackles, his second game in three with double digit tackles and seven of which were solo stops, and had a key interception that set up a Bloomsburg touchdown late in the first half. His pick, the first of his career, came after the Huskies had gone up 3-0 with two minutes left in the first half. He returned it 15 yards to the Laker 23-yardline to set up a Bloom TD to put them up 10-0 at the half and what would eventually be the difference in the game. Smith also had a pass break up.
For the season Smith leads the Huskies in tackles with 30, 14 of them solo. He also has 2.5 tackles for loss and a half sack along with an interception and a pass breakup.
Bloomsburg, 3-0, plays at Kutztown on Saturday at 6:05 p.m.
