Evans Named to NFL All-Rookie Team

BLOOMSBURG -- Former Bloomsburg University All-American and current member of the New Orleans Saints Jahri Evans has been named to the 2006 NFL All-Rookie team. Evans joins fellow Saint rookie standouts Reggie Bush and Marques Colston as members of this year's rookie team.

Evans, an offensive lineman for the Saints, is a member of the team that went 10-6 in 2006, won the NFC South and registered a 27-24 win over the Philadelphia Eagles this past Saturday night. The win advanced the Saints to their first NFC Championship game in team history.

Evans has started all 17 games the Saints have played this season at right guard and has paved the way for a Saints offense that led the league in total yardage in 2006 averaging 391.5 yards a game. The team's rushing attack averaged 110.1 yards per game on the ground, while Saints rushers scored 19 touchdowns, the second most in the NFC. The Saints offensive line also allowed just 23 sacks all season, fourth best in the NFL in 2006 and gave quarterback Drew Brees the protection to throw for a league high 4,418 yards on the year. Evans also recovered a fumble in the Saints 27-24 win over the Eagles on October 15th.

Evans and the Saints will go on the road this Sunday to face off with the 15-2 Chicago Bears in the 2007 NFC Championship game. Kickoff is slated for 3:00 p.m.
