Huskies Picked to Finish Seventh in PSAC East

BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University baseball team has been picked to finish seventh in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division, according to the league's preseason coaches' poll released Friday morning.

Kutztown was picked the preseason favorite in the Eastern Division with three first-place votes, while West Chester (three first-place votes) was a close second. Shippensburg, East Stroudsburg, Millersville, Mansfield (one first-place vote) and Bloomsburg completed the season predictions.

Four teams received first-place votes for the Western Division. Slippery Rock is the top pick, receiving two first-place votes, while Mercyhurst (one first-place vote) finished second. California (Pa.) (two first-place votes), Indiana (Pa.) (two first-place votes), Lock Haven, Clarion and Gannon rounded out the standings.

The Huskies return two key seniors in Grant Kernaghan (Upper Darby/Upper Darby) and Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North). Kernaghan posted a 2.81 ERA with five wins and four complete games in 2009. Donofry ended the season with a .396 batting average along with 30 RBI and 65 hits. He also had 18 stolen bases.

Bloomsburg opens the 2010 season on February 18 against the Apprentice School in the Builder Invitational held in Newport News, VA.
