Bloomsburg Baseball Drops Pair of Games on Sunday

HICKORY, NC-The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped a pair of games on Sunday at Lenoir-Rhyne College. The Huskies lost to Seton Hill 18-8 and to the host school by a score of 14-13.

In game one after falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first, Bloomsburg got two back in the home half of the inning. Joey Ianiero (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) singled to open the inning and moved to third on a double by Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North). Ianiero later scored on an error with Donofry coming home on a single by Seth Pauling (Allenwood/Montgomery).

After Seton Hill came back with four in the second and five in the third to lead 12-2, the Huskies got two back in the bottom of the fourth. Ianiero came around to score on an error after getting a two-out walk. Gino Wise (Mechanicsburg/Mechanicsburg) drove in Donofry with the second run of the inning. The Huskies added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning with the help of the long ball. Pauling led off the inning with a homer with Donofry later slamming a three-run shot.

Donofry finished the game 2-2 with three RBI, while Pauling was 3-4 with two runs batted in. In game two Bloomsburg got off to a quick start scoring five times in the top of the first. Pauling hit a three-run homer to highlight the offensive fireworks, while Donofry had an RBI double and Wise a run-scoring single for a 5-0 lead. After Lenoir-Rhyne cut it to 5-4 with two runs in both the first and second innings, the Huskies made it a 7-4 game with a pair of runs in the top of the third. Wise, who walked and stole second, later scored on a passed ball, while Pauling, who also walked, scored on a single by Devin McLaughlin (Bloomsburg/Bloomsburg).

Bloomsburg made it 11-4 with three runs in the top of the seventh inning and after the Bears got one back in the home seventh, the Huskies tacked on two more runs in the top of the eighth for a 13-5 lead. Lenoir-Rhyne cut the lead to 13-7 with two runs in the bottom of the eighth, then staged a seven-run rally in the bottom of the ninth to pull out the victory. The Bears used three hits, two errors and two walks to come back for the win.

Wise went 2-4 with three runs scored and two RBI for Bloomsburg, while Pauling went 1-3 with three RBI and three runs scored.

Bloomsburg falls to 3-6 with the losses and will play at Erskine, SC on Saturday.
