Huskies Fall to Kutztown on Saturday at Builder Invitational
HAMPTON, VA-The Bloomsburg University baseball team fell to Kutztown University 16-6 on Saturday at the Builder Invitational at War Memorial Stadium.
The Huskies put two runs on the board in the top of the first with the help of RBI singles from Tony Donofry (Newtown/Council Rock North) and Jerry Lloyd (Mifflinburg/Allegany College). The Golden Bears, however, were able to even the score with two runs in their half of the inning.
Bloomsburg's starter, Vinny Voorhees (Lakaska/New Hope Solebury), kept Kutztown scoreless for the next three innings, while the Huskies were able to take a 3-2 lead. After evening the score again in the fifth inning, the Golden Bears took the lead with three more runs in the sixth inning to go ahead 6-3. After the Huskies knotted the score at 6-apiece in the top of the seventh, Kutztown opened up a huge lead, scoring 10 runs in the bottom half to take the victory.
Voorhees went five innings, striking out nine batters and allowing five hits. Lloyd and Eric Ebert (Holland/Council Rock South) each picked up two RBI while Kramer went 3-for-4 with an RBI.
The Huskies will face Kutztown again on Sunday as the number two seed in the finals of the invitational.
