Huskies Comeback Falls Short
HAMPTON, VA-Despite seven runs in the top of the ninth inning, the Bloomsburg University baseball team fell to Kutztown University 11-10 in the final game of the 2010 Builder Invitational on Sunday evening.
After the Huskies scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut their deficit to 4-3, Kutztown responded in its half of the inning with six runs and then one more in the eighth to take an 11-3 lead into the ninth. Junior Jerry Lloyd (Mifflinburg/Allegany College) started the comeback with a single up the middle and then scored after three straight walks. With the bases still loaded, junior Joey Ianeiro (Bloomsburg/Rutgers) singled and advanced to second on the throw, bringing in two more Bloomsburg runners to make the score 11-6 with no outs.
Senior Chris Tressler (Lewistown/Lewistown) continued the rally with an infield single, which brought home one run and allowed Ianeiro to score on a throwing error, making the score 11-8. Another single put Tressler at second, where he would be brought home on a single to left by sophomore Jarrod Kramer (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain), bringing the Huskies to within two runs, still with no outs.
After a foul out, Lloyd came back up to the plate and singled again, bringing home another run and stood at first base as the go-ahead run. However, the next two Bloomsburg batters struck out swinging, ending the comeback.
Lloyd went 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored and senior Corey Eisenhart (York/Dover/Hagerstown CC) went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Chris Carter started and picked up the loss, combining with two other pitchers to give up 10 hits and strike out eight.
The Huskies finished the invitational with a 2-3 record and take the field again on February 27 when they play Lenoir Rhyne and Seton Hill in Hickory, North Carolina.
