Bloomsburg University Baseball Falls to Kutztown
BLOOMSBURGó The Bloomsburg University baseball team fell to Kutztown University on Saturday afternoon in both games of a doubleheader. The Huskies lost game one, 9-6, and surrendered game two 6-1.
In game one, Kutztown took advantage of a four-run first inning to build an early lead. The Huskies would respond in the top of the second as Corey Eisenhart (York/Dover/Hagerstown CC) and Tony Donofry (Newton/Council Rock South) both had RBI singles to cut the Kutztown lead in half, 4-2. Kutztown would add two more in the bottom of the second and that score would remain until the bottom of the sixth.
Kutztown added three more for a 9-2 lead, but Bloomsburg would attempt a rally in the final inning. Donofry scored on a wild pitch and Kevin Ward (Clifton Heights/Monsignor Bonner) and Jarrod Kramer (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) drove in runs, but the rally fell short. Tyler Gansner (Lancaster/Lampeter-Strasburg/UNC Charlotte) (0-1) picked up the loss for Bloomsburg.
In game two, Bloomsburg struck first when Donofry scored off of a Chris Haagen (New Britain/CB West) grounder in the top of the third inning to take a1-0 lead. The Huskies would hold that lead until the fifth inning, when Kutztown scored six runs in the bottom half of the inning to secure the victory. Mitch Troy (Elkton, MD/Cecil College) (4-4) took the loss for Bloomsburg.
With the losses, Bloomsburg falls to 14-24 overall, 5-15 in the PSAC East.
Bloomsburg returns to action on Friday when they travel to West Chester. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m.
