Bloomsburg University Baseball Team Drops Opener

NEWPORT NEWS, VA-- The Bloomsburg University baseball team dropped its 2009 season opener to the Apprentice School by a 6-0 score at the Shipbuilders Invitational in Newport News, VA.

The Huskies managed four hits in the game along with five walks, but stranded 11 runners. Bloomsburg had two runners on with two outs in the first and fourth innings and had the bases loaded in the second inning, but could not score.

Carlos Medina (Lititz/Manheim Twp) went 2-4 to lead the Huskies, while Scott Kacelowicz (Orwigsburg/Blue Mountain) was 1-4 with a double. Mitch Troy (Elkton, MD/Cecil College) took the loss on the mound.

Bloomsburg, 0-1, will play Lock Haven Friday morning at 9 a.m. and Kutztown on Friday evening at 6 p.m.
