BLOOMSBURG— Bloomsburg University and the Columbia-Montour Visitors Bureau have developed a mobile app to highlight the permanent art collection placed around BU’s campus. The Sculpture Walk is now available for download via the Columbia-Montour Visitors Bureau.
BU has a rich collection of large-scale art pieces featured in or around academic, administrative, and residential campus buildings. Since 1962, over 500 works have been placed on campus enriching the campus’s aesthetic and cultural climate.
Users of the mobile app can navigate through a campus map and click on pictures of specific artworks to reveal its title, artist, medium, year and description. The Sculpture Walk project aims to highlight the different mediums, techniques, styles, and themes used in the collection and inform viewers of the history behind it. Bloomsburg University’s departments of art and art history, instructional technology, and instructional media services and numerous Bloomsburg University students were involved in the development of the app.
Bloomsburg University is one of 14 universities in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education. The university serves approximately 9,600 students, offering comprehensive programs of study in the colleges of Education, Business, Liberal Arts and Science and Technology.
