For Immediate Release: March 4, 2015
BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s largest student-run community service project is back for its sixth year. The Big Event will be held on Saturday, March 28, beginning in the Bloomsburg’s Town Park. Volunteers will depart for their job assignments at 10 a.m. and return by 3 p.m.
The Big Event is a one-day community service project in which university students perform clean-up tasks, such as raking leaves, picking up trash, painting fences and weeding, in the Town of Bloomsburg. The objective of the Big Event is to give a warm “thank you” from BU students to the residents of Bloomsburg for sharing their community.
No other BU community service project gathers more students from as many different areas of university life. Volunteers come from Greek life, athletics, club sports, student organizations and individual and small groups, and each year the number of participants rises. Last year, more than 2,000 students signed up to participate as volunteers.
Bloomsburg University is one of 14 universities in Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education. The university serves approximately 10,000 students, offering comprehensive programs of study in the colleges of Education, Business, Liberal Arts and Science and Technology.
