BLOOMSBURG— The 2014 Celebrity Artist Series at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania is bringing the famous Tchaikovsky ballet “Swan Lake” to the stage as a part of BU’s 175th anniversary celebration.
The performance will be presented Saturday, March 29, at 8 p.m. in Mitrani Hall, located in BU’s Haas Center for the Arts. Tickets are $35 for adults and $17 for children and BU students.
This tour features the young dancers of Russia’s Moscow Festival Ballet. The four-act classical ballet tells the romantic tale of Prince Siegfried and for Princess Odette, who is turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer.
Complementing the live performance of “Swan Lake” and new this year to Celebrity Artist Series will be “Movies @ Gross Auditorium.” On Sunday, March 23, at 7 p.m., the 2010 Academy Award-winning psychological thriller, “Black Swan,” will be shown in Carver Hall, Kenneth S. Gross Auditorium. The film tells the story of an ambitious dancer, portrayed by Natalie Portman, who is preparing for the lead in “Swan Lake.” Portman received the Best Actress Oscar for this role. Admission to the movie is free to all “Swan Lake” ticket holders and $1 for others.
The final Celebrity Artist Series performance for the 2013-2014 season will be the Pedrito Martinez Group. Martinez, a world-class conga player, singer and bandleader, and his band will perform on Sunday, April 13, at 7 p.m. in Carver Hall, Kenneth S. Gross Auditorium. Tickets are complimentary but required.
