Tony Award-winning musical comes to BU

Spring Awakening For immediate release: March 27, 2011

BLOOMSBURG — The national tour of “Spring Awakening” is coming to Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania. The troupe will give a single performance Friday, April 8, at 8 p.m. in Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall with a gallery talk one hour before curtain. The musical is a part of the 25th anniversary Celebrity Artist Series and general admission is $30.

Winner of eight Tony Awards, including the 2007 musical of the year, “Spring Awakening” is a coming-of-age story based on Frank Wedekind’s play of the same name that was banned for 100 years in Germany. The musical remains controversial for its honest depiction of the issues of adolescence, including sexuality, independence and the fear of fitting in.

“Spring Awakening” is a powerful story with mature themes, sexual situations and strong language and is not suitable for children.

Bloomsburg University is one of 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. The university serves approximately 9,000 students, offering comprehensive programs of study in the colleges of Education, Business, Liberal Arts and Science and Technology.
