BLOOMSBURG — A total of 430 alumni will receive the Grimes Award from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Alumni Association during the “Thanks for the Memories” awards luncheon and annual alumni association meeting Saturday, April 10. The luncheon is part of BU’s annual Alumni Weekend from Friday to Sunday, April 9 to 11.
The Grimes Award recognizes alumni event participation and support of BU. This year’s luncheon is dedicated to the memory of Chuck Daly ’52, former coach of the Detroit Pistons and the Dream Team of the 1992 Summer Olympics, who died in May 2009.
The weekend’s activities start Friday, April 9, with “Happy Times,” a reunion luncheon of classes from the 1930s and 1940s. “Memory Lane,” free campus bus and walking tours, will be offered Saturday at 10:30 and 11 a.m., including a stop at the University Store where a discount will be offered to alumni.
Siblings’ and Family Weekend coincides with Alumni Weekend and includes “Fun Times,” a carnival on the Academic Quad with free food and a nominal charge for games offered by BU student organizations. The carnival will be held Saturday, April 10, from 1 to 4 p.m.
Other Alumni Weekend events on Saturday, April 10, include “Memories of Hearth and Home,” alumni coffee house, 10 to 11:30 a.m., Fenstemaker Alumni House; “Bloomsburg Memories and Mayhem,” recording a video history, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., Kehr Union; and “Musical Memories” reception, 6:45 to 7:30 p.m., Alumni House.
